Over these last several months, we have been journeying through a peculiar period in history. The COVID-19 pandemic—and all that has come with it—has been an unprecedented experience for all of us. Though life as we’ve known it has been deeply disrupted by the pandemic, we can see clear evidence that God continues to be faithfully at work in the world. The 2020 Greater Edmonton Missions gathering provides us opportunity to celebrate this reality. It is with this in mind that we’ve selected “God Is Still Moving” as the theme of this year’s gathering. We invite churches from across our province to join us as we hear from missions leaders from our North American Baptist Conference International Office, NAB missionaries currently on home assignment, and two of our own ABA families that are preparing to launch out into international mission in response to God’s call.
This year’s event will take place on the evening of Friday, October 30th and the morning of Saturday, October 31st. Here’s a closer look at what will be taking place:
- Friday, October 30th, 7-9 PM: This segment of the GEM event will take place on Zoom. We will hear presentations from Kerry Bender, NAB Vice President of International Missions, and Bud Fuchs, NAB Cross-Cultural Equipper. We also will devote time to praying together for our missionaries. Those who complete the registration form (see below) will receive the Zoom link in advance.
- Saturday, October 31st, 9 AM-Noon: For this portion of the program, we will gather at Central Baptist Church (9419 95 Street NW). We will receive an update from Jeff and Sonya Kilmartin, missionaries to Cameroon. We also will hear from Jason and Erin Bergman, who are preparing to join the Camp Falcon Rock team in Romania, and Raffaele and Sylvia Gaudio, who will be heading to Japan. We aim to livestream this event for the benefit of all who cannot join us in person. Details for how to access the livestream will be sent to registrants along with the Zoom link referenced above.
Please note that all attendees at the Saturday morning gathering will be required to register in advance, to wear a mask, and to observe social distancing protocols. Due to the ongoing challenges posed by the pandemic, no food or drink will be served. However, attendees are welcome to bring their own snacks and drinks along if they desire.
We will be taking up an offering and are aiming to raise $20,000 to help provide for the Bergmans’ and Gaudios’ start-up costs as they transition to their new ministries overseas.
Regardless of how much is raised, we will split the total evenly between these two families. All cheques should be written to: Alberta Baptist Association.
Be sure to write “2020 GEM Offering” in the memo line. To give by e-transfer, direct your contribution to [email protected].
Whether you are able to participate in-person, online, or a combination of both, we hope that you will join us for this event. God Is Still Moving. We look forward to celebrating this reality together as an ABA family. We’d be grateful if you’d share this invitation with your congregation and forward this email to anyone who you think would benefit from receiving it.
