Each year in November,  pastors and spouses from Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia gather in Banff, AB, for an outstanding time of worship, inspiration and relaxation. This event is a good reminder that we are a part of a larger ministry that extends across Western Canada, and it is an opportunity to build relationships with pastoral colleagues from across western Canada. Those who attend enjoy the wonder of Banff National Park, and the encouragement and challenge from outstanding speakers. Renewal, relaxation and rest are the order of the day.

2023 Banff Pastor & Spouse Retreat

Pastors of Western Canada

Speaker: Jerry Shepherd
Crucifixion and Christian Ministry

The Christian pastor is not only one who serves a Lord who was crucified, but engages in a ministry that is carried out “under the shadow of the cross” as well. In other words, the Christian ministry is to be a “crucified ministry.” What does this look like? How is this to be done? And how does it all relate to the resurrection? We will try to answer these questions by looking, in particular, at four examples of “crucified ministry”: Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Jesus, and Paul, and see what the implications are for the Christian pastor today.

Dr. Jerry Shepherd is Emeritus Professor of Old Testament at Taylor Seminary, as well as Adjunct Professor at several other institutions. He taught Old Testament, biblical theology and biblical languages at Taylor for 28 years. Jerry has written a commentary on Ecclesiastes for the Revised Expositor's Bible Commentary and on Leviticus for the Story of God Bible Commentary series and he has also been a contributor to various biblical dictionaries.Jerry also enjoys being a frequent speaker at churches, camps, Sunday Schools, workshops and conferences. He has been married to Cheryl for 49 years, has three grown children, three grandchildren and one grand-dog.
